Fatima El Saadani is on a path to minimal consumption of animal products and has found that Egyptian cuisine is both diverse and flavourful when it comes to eating meat free. This journey, in addition to Fatima’s passion for food and belief that Egyptian food hasn’t been exported as well as other international cuisines, is the reason she started The Cairo Eatery in Brisbane.
Since starting in June 2018, Fatima has been very practical in her approach to starting The Cairo Eatery. She is keenly aware that entering this industry will see money spent without seeing immediate return. With this in mind, front and centre, Fatima was unsure how long The Cairo Eatery would last; but just 9 weeks in, Fatima is now adamant to make her business succeed.
For now, Fatima is happy that the slow growth of her business is allowing her time to work on the menu and recipes whilst building up a good reputation. The Cairo Eatery may not be bringing in the big bucks right now, but they are seeing a growing number of repeat customers which is a great sign.
Fatima would love to see some of her products on supermarket shelves, and for Egyptian cuisine to be recognised as easily as Indian. Her dream for The Cairo Eatery as a destination point is to open a restaurant in Brisbane, with a location in the Gold Coast to follow. Expanding to other states could even be on the horizon – who knows!
