Adrienne and Rick started El Planta on 24th March 2019 right here at Wandering Cooks.
The idea of starting El Planta together was inspired by their first date, 9 years ago, at a taco shack. That’s where they fell in love… with each other and with Mexican food. Adrienne and Rick came to Wandering Cooks to put their dreams into practise, and they have.
Adrienne and Rick want to encourage people to eat more plants in a new and exciting way. By making everything from scratch, they’re committed to giving the El Planta tacos their own unique flavour. They’ve formed a great relationship with a local ethical farmer from south of Brisbane who produces delicious herbs to make this happen.
Starting El Planta required a crucial ingredient: each other. The long days and nights can be tough and they know when they’re exhausted, they look at each other and think – THIS IS AWESOME.
Adrienne and Rick learnt to cook through intuition and experimenting. Typical flavours or dishes you’ll find on the El Planta menu range from Mexican Street Corn, “Chicken” Mole Tacos, “Fish” tacos and a spiced chocolate mousse.
Learning Curves and Dreams
Adrienne and Rick know their biggest learning is food will burn, flour goes everywhere and plans may not always turn out however, they’re learning how to get through this.
Adrienne and Rick’s dream to have a space where everyone feels welcome, enjoys each other’s company and plant-based Mexican. Getting people excited and loving plants as much as they do is the true dream.
