Atena and Bal started East by Middle East in December 2017 here at Wandering Cooks. Having worked in the hospitality and food manufacturing industry before, their business was the result of a dream to create and present traditional Afghani and Persian foods that look and taste authentic, whilst being presented with a touch of modern, creative flair.
The journey so far has felt tough; but reassuringly, Atena and Bal are happy to see that it is showing some very progressive results. And as with every good journey, there have been some great learning curves. One of the biggest of these has been the realisation that food service isn’t just about cooking. East by Middle East are focusing on serving food that is good quality, tastes great, looks even better, and of course, fulfills customers’ expectations. This needs to always be balanced with staying true to their traditional roots to bring the dining experience full circle. Finding reliable and skilled staff who can uphold all of these values is another one of the challenges that has cropped up in light of this!
If money and time were no object, Atena and Bal dream of opening a small restaurant in a ritzy part of Brisbane. Within this restaurant you would find them sharing their tasty, homemade Persian and Afghani food with style, serving their customers dishes that showcase the best produce from Australian markets combined with authentic ingredients and flavours.
